For Anderson DeChiaro ’27, a double major in biology and environmental science, Moravian University has provided transformative growth both in and out of the classroom. Through hands-on fieldwork, international travel, and personal mentorship, Andy has realized his passion for scientific discovery. “Moravian’s helped me grow professionally as an adult, but also as a scientist,” he shares.
Two of his stand-out experiences involve studying abroad—conducting independent honors research on rainforest ecosystems in Panama alongside Dr. Daniel Proud and traveling to Costa Rica through the Elevate program.
Inspired by the dedication of his faculty mentors, Andy plans to pursue higher education leadership. “I would like to become some type of science professor,” he says, with a focus on “entomology or working with some type of bugs.”
Andy is grateful for the support that has made his experiences possible, particularly the Helen R. Kohler Global Experience Endowment Fund. “Your contributions have given me so many opportunities around campus. I don’t think I would have gotten that same experience anywhere else besides here at Moravian."
