Broadening Horizons

Jacob Herrera ’26

“My semester abroad really broadened my horizons and exposed me to cultures and people whom I otherwise would not have met. Also, it allowed me to grow as an individual and challenge myself in ways I never thought possible,”

For Jacob Herrera ’26, studying abroad in Spain was more than an opportunity to explore Europe—it was a chance to challenge himself, deepen his understanding of business, and grow as an individual.

A business management major from Easton, Pennsylvania, Jacob immersed himself in Spanish culture while strengthening his communication skills and expanding his perspective on the global business landscape. During his semester abroad, he learned about the European Union, international business, cross-border operations, and global financial markets.

Salamanca became Jacob’s favorite place—not only because of its culture and relaxed pace of life, but because it was where he made the most memories during his time abroad.

“Studying abroad really broadened my horizons and exposed me to cultures and people whom I otherwise would not have met,” Jacob shared. The experience also pushed him beyond his comfort zone, allowing him to grow in ways he never expected while enhancing his knowledge of both business and Spanish.

Jacob’s transformative education abroad experience was made possible through the Alexander, Elizabeth & Joann Trotsky Study Abroad Endowed Scholarship Fund. “If it wasn’t for your donations, my trip abroad wouldn’t have been possible,” he shared in a thank-you letter to his donors. “Thanks in large part to you, I was able to enhance my knowledge, and I also made everlasting memories and friends.”
