Sports & Culture in Madrid
Course meets during Spring I 2027 term (the first eight weeks of the spring semester) asynchronously.
Travel occurs during Spring Break: March 5 - 13, 2027 (+/- 1-3 days)
As one of the major cities in the world, Madrid needs no introduction and it will offer students a plethora of cultural activities while providing them with opportunities to meet leaders in sports. The best way to learn about a new culture is by visiting a location, speaking with experts, and participating in professional and cultural activities. Students will engage with speakers from business and sports organizations, as well as gain exposure to well-known cultural experiences.

- Self-Pay Total Cost: $3,800
- Your Out-Of-Pocket Cost After Elevate Credit has been Applied (Valued at $2,800 for eligible students): $1,000

Itinerary
All the landmarks mentioned in this itinerary will be visited. Some changes may be made in the order they will be visited depending upon the weather.
Day 1: Depart: Fly from the US to Madrid, Spain.
Day 2: Arrive & Settle: Arrive in Madird, settle into hotel, and get get oriented to the Madrid Metro, the hotel's neighborhood, the Spanish meal schedule, safety expectations, and establish a group meeting point.
Day 3: El Rastro, Historic Madrid & Sport: Sightseeing in Madrid with visits to El Rastro flea market, exploration of historic Madrid neighborhoods, and a guided tour of Bernabéu Stadium, home of Real Madrid football club.
Day 4: Power, Monarchy & Architecture: Guided visits to the Royal Palace, Almudena Cathedral, Sabatini Gardens/Plaza de España, and the ancient Egyptian Temple of Debod.
Day 5: Art, Memory & Identity: Experience Madrid’s art, memory, and identity through visits to the world-renowned Prado Museum, a walking tour of Barrio de las Letras, also known as the Literary Quarter, and the Reina Sofía Museum.
Day 6: Hands-On Learning: Participate in cultural workshops, including a Spanish cooking workshop where students will prepare and enjoy their own lunch, followed by a traditional ceramics workshop.
Day 7: Three Cultures & Cultural Memory Take a day trip to Toledo, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known as the “City of Three Cultures.” The guided Toledo experience will explore the Cathedral, Jewish Quarter, Islamic heritage sites, historic synagogues, medieval streets, El Greco landmarks, and the Alcázar fortress.
Day 8: Land, Legacy & Wine: Take a countryside day trip focused on land, legacy, and wine culture, with visits to San Martín de Valdeiglesias, the medieval Castillo de la Coracera, and the scenic San Juan Reservoir.
Day 9: Return: Fly from Madrid, Spain to the US.
