Alumni in Love

With Valentine’s Day a mere eleven days away, we reached out to a few Moravian University couples and asked them to share their cupid tales: how they met, what drew them together, and the thing or things they love about each other. May your heart get a little warm and fuzzy.

Allie ’10 and Mike ’07 Clemente

Allie and Mike met at the OBT. Allie walked right over to Mike and asked him to buy her a drink. He did, and the rest is history! They’ve been married for 1 year and 7 months and live and work in Toms River, New Jersey. Mike teaches business courses to grades 9 through 12 and Allie is the head basketball coach at Central Regional High School. Allie works in development at a hospital.

The allure
Allie: I remembered Mike from when he was at Moravian, I was a freshman and he was a senior. I thought he was so cool, and we never even talked. When I finally got the courage and approached him, it was as if I had known him forever.

Mike: She was so confident. I loved that she asked me to buy her a drink! She was so very funny and beautiful. I knew it was meant to be from day one.

The love

Allie: I love Mike's passion for the kids he teaches and coaches, his good looks, and strong family values.

Mike: I love Allie's sense of humor, her love for life, and her smile.

Brittany ’12 and Nick ’13 Clingan

Brittany and Nick met at the Moravian University edition of Relay For Life during spring semester 2010. They had both volunteered for set-up and were introduced by a mutual friend who organized the event (shout-out to Jamie Thierolf Dease ’12!). Married just six months, Brittany and Nick are newlyweds. They live in Alexandria, Virginia. Nick is a software developer at Tahzoo and Brittany is a school psychologist at Prince William County Public Schools. They are the proud parents of a cat named Peanut.

The allure

Nick:  What really drew me to Brittany was and is her passion for helping others.

Brittany:  I appreciated (and still do) Nick’s easy-going personality; we balance each other out.

The love

Nick: I love how much Brittany cares about family.

Brittany: His corny jokes--they are awful, but I love them.

Jackie ’09 and Matt ‘10 Wisotsky

This couple met in physics class. They were lab partners, and their relationship rocketed from there. Jackie and Matt will be married 4 years this July. They live in Reading, Pennsylvania, and both work at Muhlenberg Middle School. Matt teaches 9th grade math and coaches football (varsity assistant) and track and field (head junior high coach), and Jackie teaches 8th grade math and is a Math Counts coach. They have a beautiful daughter, Charlotte (Charli for short), who will be 2 in July.

The allure

Matt: Jackie was my college crush almost the moment I stepped onto campus. Physics was the first class I had on the first day of school. Her beautiful blond hair and combination of beauty, brains, and a love for math was a rare mix to find in a woman.

Jackie: I could turn to Matt during tough times. He was so patient and kind when listening to my problems. A genuine nice guy was rare to come across, and when we started dating, I knew I had found someone special.

The love

Matt: I love how determined Jackie is at everything she does.  No matter what the task or challenge, she always gets the job done and done right. I also admire her drive to go above and beyond. I am proud to call her my wife.

Jackie: I usually poke fun at Matt for being "Mr. Moravian"--as in someone who is very social and quickly becomes best friends with everyone he meets. I actually really love this quality about him. He makes everyone in his life feel special, from his high school friends, to college friends, to our current colleagues, as well as his students and athletes. Matt genuinely cares about every person in his life.

FILL IN THE BLANK

We’d love to hear more of your Moravian University memories. To give them a jolt, we’re asking your to complete the following sentence

“I met my BLANK [mentor, best friend, spouse, inspiration, employer, whatever…] at Moravian University.”

Email your completed sentence, a little story to explain, and a photo to Claire Kowalchik, communications associate, Moravian University, at kowalchik@moravian.edu.
