Moravian University's Inaugural Giving Day 2016

Smashing Goals on Giving Day!

John Amos Comenius is surely rolling in his grave—with glee! In celebration of his 424th birthday, Moravian University held our first-ever Day of Giving, a 24-hour fundraising spree. We set a goal of 425 donors and—thanks to all of you—we blew past it, drawing a total of 750: 588 alumni, 38 students, 61 faculty and staff, 42 parents, and 21 friends and raising $152,714! You can check out our video for a complete presentation of the day’s stats.

Giving Day wasn’t all about the numbers, however. The entire campus enjoyed a full day of celebration replete with games, prizes, and even a birthday cake! Bob Gratz, director of alumni engagement, motored around North Campus in the “Cash Cab” golf cart from 7 am to 6 pm, stopping students and asking questions about philanthropy. A correct answer earned a free ride anywhere on the north side.

Any person making a gift at the Giving Day desk in the HUB between the hours of 11 am and 1:30 pm received a mood stadium cup, which could then be filled with a free root beer float. During dinner, teams formed to compete in a Moravian University trivia contest with prizes going to the top three teams.

Then there were prizes for the following:

  • First online gift, Kelly Grab ’11
  • Farthest online gift, Matt Bross ’10 in Germany (photo below)
  • farthest gift copy.jpg
  • Most spirited picture, Todd ’04 and Deb Leibensperger ’04 Klokis (photo below)
  • most spirited photo copy.jpg
  • Best throwback picture (below), Regina LaCaruba ’05 (who tagged nearly every single Moravian friend she has on Facebook several of whom in turn posted their own throwback photos with our hashtag)
  • LaCaruba MUGiveDay Photo copy.jpg

But the big reward—a catered tailgate for this fall’s Homecoming—went to the class with the greatest participation in Giving Day. And that class was—drumroll please—2015! Congrats and please contact the Office of Alumni Engagement if you would like help planning your tailgate.

A huge thanks goes out to everyone who participated in the giving and the fun and to all those who helped make our Giving Day Celebration such a super success!
