Moravian College joins The New American Colleges and Universities

Consortium includes small to midsize colleges nationwide

Bethlehem, PA, July 15, 2019: Today, Moravian College announced it has accepted an invitation to join the The New American Colleges and Universities (NAC&U) consortium that includes small to midsize independent colleges and universities from across the country. Founded in 1995, the NAC&U includes institutions with similar missions and helps member schools create partnerships and collaborations which, according to the NAC&U website, “enrich faculty work and improve student outcomes.”

“A few of the things that the NAC&U Board of Directors saw in Moravian was our integration between professional programs and the liberal arts, a focus on supporting teaching and learning using technology, and an institution-wide dedication to serve our community,” said Bryon Grigsby, president of Moravian College. “Since our founding in 1742, we have held to these beliefs of professional education, civic engagement and global service, and as one of the oldest colleges in the country, we are proud to be the newest member of NAC&U.”

NAC&U member schools meet regularly to share best practices and address issues affecting students and faculty at their institutions. The organization of the NAC&U began in 1994 after Ernest L. Boyer, president of the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, called for a “New American College” that would renew the tradition of higher education service to society. Today, the NAC&U includes 24 total schools located throughout the country, from areas as disparate as Maine, Florida, Illinois, and Alabama.

“We are excited to welcome Moravian College as our latest member. Their strength in combining experiential, hands-on education with a strong liberal arts foundation makes them a valuable addition to our learning network,” said Sean Creighton, president of NAC&U.
