By collaborating with the Laurie Riley '82 Center for Career Success (Riley Center), employers play a vital role in helping students develop the skills, experiences, and professional connections necessary for career success.
These policies establish the requirements and expectations for employers seeking to recruit Moravian University students and alumni through the Riley Center. The Riley Center reserves the right to interpret and apply these policies in a manner consistent with university values, legal requirements, student interests, and the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Principles for Ethical Professional Practice.
National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE)
Moravian University is a member of the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) and adheres to its standards for professional and ethical conduct in career services and recruiting.

All internships and employment opportunities promoted or facilitated by the Riley Center must comply with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and all applicable federal, state, and local wage and hour laws.
Handshake Registration and Employer Approval
Employers seeking to recruit Moravian students and alumni must agree to the Riley Center's recruiting policies and guidelines.
Employers may register on Handshake and post employment and internship opportunities. Job and internship postings are provided as a service to students and alumni and do not constitute endorsement by Moravian University of any employer, organization, or opportunity.
- Handshake Resources:
Students are encouraged to conduct their own research and exercise sound judgment when evaluating employment opportunities.
There is no fee associated with posting opportunities through Handshake.
Required Employer Information
Employer accounts must include:
- Organization name
- Organization contact information
- Employer email address associated with the organization's website domain
- Organization website
Social media profiles may supplement, but may not replace, an official organizational website.
Employer Verification
The Riley Center reserves the right to review and verify employers before approving recruiting access.
Employer accounts or job postings may be denied, restricted, or removed when:
- The legitimacy of the organization cannot be reasonably verified;
- The position requires candidates to work in a private residence;
- The position requires candidates to recruit additional members, distributors, or sales representatives;
- The position involves door-to-door solicitation;
- The position requires significant financial investment or start-up costs by the student;
- The organization seeks to promote unpaid positions within start-up ventures;
- The organization primarily advertises non-career-related temporary or seasonal opportunities; or
- The opportunity otherwise conflicts with university policies or student interests.
Specialized Recruiting Arrangements
Third-Party Recruiters
Third-party recruiters are agencies, organizations, or individuals recruiting candidates for employment opportunities other than their own staffing needs.
This includes organizations that:
- Recruit on behalf of clients;
- Collect student information for referral purposes; or
- Facilitate candidate placement for profit or nonprofit organizations.
Third-party recruiters that do not charge applicant-based fees may be permitted to recruit through the Riley Center following review and approval.
Third-party recruiters must:
- Disclose the organizations they represent;
- Provide accurate information regarding employment opportunities;
- Comply with all applicable laws and university policies; and
- Cooperate with requests for additional information or verification.
International Employers and Global Organizations
The Riley Center welcomes opportunities from domestic and international organizations that provide meaningful professional experiences for students and alumni.
Organizations recruiting through the Riley Center must provide accurate information regarding their organization, employment structure, and opportunity details and must comply with all applicable employment, labor, tax, and immigration laws.
Organizations seeking to recruit students for positions located within the United States must have a U.S.-based entity, subsidiary, or Employer of Record (EOR), or otherwise demonstrate compliance with applicable U.S. employment requirements.
Organizations without a U.S. presence, as well as third-party recruiters representing such organizations, may be subject to additional review and may be asked to provide documentation verifying organizational legitimacy, employment structure, supervision, compensation practices, and legal compliance.
Approval of recruiting activities is at the discretion of the Riley Center. The Center reserves the right to approve, deny, restrict, or discontinue employer participation when compliance, legitimacy, student safety, or alignment with university policies and standards cannot be reasonably verified.
Position and Recruiting Restrictions
Network Marketing and Entrepreneurial Investment Opportunities
Organizations that require students to make any type of financial investment, purchase inventory, pay membership fees, or incur significant start-up costs as a condition of employment or participation are not eligible to recruit through the Riley Center.
Commission-Only Positions
Employers offering commission-only positions must clearly disclose the compensation structure within all job postings and recruiting materials.
Non-Compete Agreements
Employers must clearly disclose in job and internship postings when candidates will be required to sign non-compete, non-solicitation, or similar employment agreements.
Opportunities Involving Campus Solicitation
The Riley Center will not promote opportunities that require students to serve as "Campus Representatives," "Student Ambassadors," or similar roles involving the direct solicitation, sale, promotion, or distribution of products or services on campus.
Distribution of Organizational Materials
Organizations may not distribute materials to the campus community without prior approval from the Riley Center.
All materials must be submitted to the Riley Center for review and approval. Distribution must occur in accordance with university policies and procedures.
Organizations that fail to comply with these requirements may lose access to recruiting opportunities and employer engagement activities.
Legal and Regulatory Restrictions
Marijuana and Cannabis Industry Opportunities
Organizations involved in the cultivation, production, distribution, or sale of recreational or medical marijuana are not eligible to recruit through the Riley Center.
As a recipient of federal funding, Moravian University must comply with applicable federal laws, including the Drug-Free Workplace Act and Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act. Because marijuana remains illegal under federal law, opportunities directly related to the marijuana industry are not eligible for promotion through university recruiting channels.
The Riley Center reserves the right to approve, deny, restrict, suspend, or discontinue employer participation in recruiting activities at its discretion.
This includes denying access to Handshake, recruiting events, career fairs, interviews, networking programs, employer engagement opportunities, and other university resources when an organization fails to comply with:
- University policies;
- Applicable laws and regulations;
- NACE Principles for Ethical Professional Practice; or
- Standards of professional conduct and student safety.
The Riley Center further reserves the right to remove job postings, restrict recruiting access, or discontinue employer relationships when doing so is determined to be in the best interest of students, alumni, or the university community.
