Bethlehem, Pa., April 12, 2016— Moravian College will welcome Andrew Jonathon (AJ) Block, New York’s only full-time didgeridoo player and teacher on Saturday, April 16 at 7:30 p.m. in Foy Concert Hall, Hurd Campus. The “Music of Foreign Lands” concert is sponsored by Moravian College’s Arts & Lectures committee. The general admission is $15 and $10 for students and seniors.

Block is a didgeridoo player and teacher inspired by music, yoga and spirituality. As co-founder of the New York didgeridoo awareness organization Didge Project, he has built his work around the integration of sound and healing. Performing in a wide range of settings, Block brings his music to healing events, large-scale meditative gatherings, festivals and dance parties. As a teacher Block primarily works with individuals who have come to the didgeridoo as a tool for healing. Emphasis on breath control has led many of Block’s clients to learn to play didgeridoo to treat respiratory conditions such as sleep apnea, snoring and asthma. Block also facilitates healing experiences by playing the didgeridoo while his clients relax and go deep into their healing process.

Block is the featured soloist in Sean O’Boyle’s Concerto for Didgeridoo in its USA premiere of the newly arranged version for wind ensemble.  Other works on the program are Stanhope’s Droylsden Wakes, Chen Qian’s Come, Drink One More Cup, Lloyd’s Fanfare for Freedom, and the world premiere of newly arranged wind ensemble version of O’Boyle’s Larrikins & Legends.
