Bethlehem, Pa., February 9, 2016— Painter Kurt Kauper will visit Moravian College for a talk as part of the Ackerman Lecture Series on Wednesday, February 10 at 4:15 p.m. in Prosser Auditorium. Haupert Union Building. Following the talk there will be a reception in the HUB lounge at 5:30 p.m., and a display of political/advocacy posters created by students in Professor Debra Torok’s "Artists as Activists" class.  

Kauper is currently a professor of art at Queens College, CUNY. He has taught at the Museum School in Boston, at Yale, and at Princeton University. For the past 15 years, Kauper’s paintings have been images of familiar cultural icons, including opera divas, hockey players, Cary Grant, and Barack and Michelle Obama, seen in a variety of unfamiliar ways. He received a BFA from Boston University and an MFA in painting from the University of California, Los Angeles.  

His work is included in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, NY; the Oakland Museum of Art; and the Yale University Art Gallery. He has received numerous awards, including grants from the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation, and the Pollock-Krasner Foundation.

The Rose and Rudy Ackerman Visiting Lecture Series at Moravian College, funded by an endowment created by the Ackermans to foster the arts. Visiting artists are invited to present lectures at the College by the chair of the Art Department after consultation with the art faculty.
