John Makuvek Field Turf Renovation

Moravian University and Moravian Athletics are investing in our student-athletes and the campus community. This summer, a $765,000 turf renovation at John Makuvek Field was completed to ensure our Greyhounds can safely train and compete.

Located in the heart of campus, Mak Field is home to five varsity teams—Field Hockey, Men’s and Women’s Lacrosse, and Men’s and Women’s Soccer—and supports both NCAA traditional and non-traditional seasons. With such high usage, maintaining a safe and durable playing surface is critical to reducing injuries and supporting athlete performance.

The new AstroTurf system, featuring advanced Brock Shock padding, prioritizes student-athlete health and injury prevention, and represents the gold standard in synthetic athletic surfaces. This addition is a major investment in the safety, performance, and experience of our student-athletes. This upgrade replaces the original 2016 turf with a modern surface that better supports today's athletes by mitigating lower extremity fatigue and reduces concussion risk.

Support the Renovation with a Gift to the Blue & Grey Fund

Just as the new turf elevates our varsity teams, the Blue & Grey Fund empowers every Moravian student-athlete. Please consider giving a gift to help keep our facilities first-class, safe, and championship-ready for Landmark Conference play and regional competition. Your support also fuels strength and conditioning, nutrition, team travel, and more—everything that creates an unforgettable Greyhound experience.

In 2016, generous Moravian supporters named John Makuvek Field in honor of Coach Mak, who touched the lives of countless student-athletes over his tenure as the Men’s Soccer and Golf coach, along with Athletic Director for 43 years. The original turf, which replaced the grass field, served our student-athletes well for the past nine years.

The new AstroTurf, while not only looking good with the new logo and colors, also focuses on student-athlete health. The addition of Brock Shock padding minimizes injuries including reduction of concussions. The focus on student-athlete health and well being is a major factor in keeping the turf up to date and safe. We are extremely grateful that our administration, board of trustees, and facilities team all recognize the need for an upgrade which will benefit our student-athletes and entire Moravian community.”
