Limits of Service 

Eligibility for Services

• Enrolled full-time graduate and undergraduate students 
• Not eligible: 
  • Part-time students; students on a leave of absence, including students whose status changes through course withdrawal(s)
  • Faculty and staff
• MUCC staff can provide a single consultation session for students who are not eligible to assist them in finding community-based services 

Services 

• We can help most students, but we are not a full-service mental health clinic 
• MUCC staff will determine whether a student's needs fall within its scope of practice 
• During busy times, students may need to wait to be seen for non-crisis level appointments 

Limits of Service

We can help most students, but we are not a full-service mental health clinic. The following circumstances fall outside the services offered by MUCC and will be referred to an appropriate provider during the initial session, consultation, or as needed: 

• Students who demonstrate a serious lack of motivation or engagement in treatment, as evidenced by poor attendance to appointments or lack of follow-through on recommendations 
• Students who demonstrate a serious lack of motivation or engagement in treatment, as evidenced by poor attendance to appointments or lack of follow-through on recommendations
• Students who are currently engaged in therapy services in the community and do not end that treatment
• Issues requiring an intensive level of care such as needing to be seen more than once per week
• Students returning to campus after psychiatric hospitalization or other treatment requiring more support than short-term, weekly outpatient individual therapy (e.g. students discharged from hospitalization and referred for services such as IOP, partial hospitalization, DBT, or family-based therapy should seek these services from community-based providers with expertise in these areas)
• Students with active psychotic symptoms at risk for progressive deterioration of functioning and in need of intensive treatment for stabilization
• Students with a recent history of numerous suicide attempts, severe self-injury, or multiple psychiatric hospitalizations
• Students with significant or chronic disordered eating symptoms which require intensive outpatient or residential treatment and whose symptoms pose medical danger
• Anyone who is not medically stable or requires intensive, integrated, medical and psychological treatment.
• Significant or chronic substance use which requires intensive outpatient or residential treatment, detox, or hospitalization, or whose symptoms pose medical danger
• Students whose needs fall outside the clinical expertise of MUCC staff (see common clinical services list above)
• Students with a history of longstanding, seriously maladaptive interpersonal behaviors that result in severe relationship problems, who come to public attention due to their disruptive interpersonal approaches, require services beyond MUCC’s scope of practice
• Students who engage in inappropriate, harassing, menacing, threatening, or violent behaviors towards Moravian University staff or faculty including MUCC staff or other students. Students who engage in behaviors listed above during treatment to any MUCC staff will have their services suspended at MUCC and Campus Police will be notified
• Students who are seeking counseling because it is a requirement of a class or program of study
• Students seeking or attempting to meet requirements of court-mandated treatment, legal proceedings, employment clearance, or medical insurance documentation
• Assessment for learning disabilities, attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), documentation for service or emotional support animals, forensic evaluations, and/or other matters

In the event a student requires services not provided by MUCC every effort will be made to facilitate a referral to an appropriate provider. The Center's therapists can provide referral options but the student ultimately decides if they will pursue those options.
