Moravian Dance Company
Moravian Dance Company strives to provide students with the opportunity to express themselves through movement in a supportive liberal arts college environment. Dancers engage with professional dance faculty alongside other passionate and dedicated movers. Students will enhance their dance education, body awareness, and develop artistry through: master classes, viewing dance, and performing in concerts.
Recently, our Company dancers had the opportunity to take class with Sankofa Danzafro, SYREN Modern Dance Company, Monica Bill Barnes & Company, LaTasha Barnes: The Jazz Continuum, Koresh Dance Company, Passion Fruit Dance Company, Charles Anderson, and Samwel Japhet . Students work annually with guest artists and artists in residence for the Dancers In Concert performance as well.
Company dancers have also performed in a collaborative dance piece with Monica Bill Barnes & Company at Lafayette College, in the Dance EXposure concert at SteelStacks and Lehigh Valley Dance Exchange’s Spring Up Dance Festival at Cedar Crest College.
Dance Company Requirements
Dance Company is by annual audition. All Moravian Company dancers must have 5 or more years of technical training in ballet, modern, or jazz prior to auditioning. Company is a full year commitment. The Dance Company class meets twice weekly in the Root Cellar Dance Studio of the Hill on South Campus to train in ballet and modern techniques. Dancers will attend professional dance concerts, participate in an annual dance screening, and take part in several masterclasses/workshops. Dancers will perform in Dance Progressions, an informal showcase in the Fall, Dancers In Concert Spring performance, and can participate in a Homecoming show. Students will attend additional rehearsals outside of class time for these concerts.
Like other large ensembles, participation in the Dance Company counts toward credit if students register for either DANC 120 or DANC 121.
Moravian is an institutional member of the American College Dance Association. ACDA is a national dance organization divided into 13 regions and annually sponsors conferences each Spring at a different host college. This conference is attended by faculty and students from colleges and universities in each region in which participants attend 3 days of master classes, lectures, and performances.
