Service Learning: A Cultural Immersion Experience

Embark on a transformative service learning journey to the Dominican Republic, where education meets community engagement. This university trip offers a unique opportunity to make a positive impact while immersing yourself in a rich cultural experience. Begin with an orientation and enjoy free time before diving into community ethics presentations and hands-on work at La Boca de Yasica. Throughout the trip, engage in lectures on important topics such as human security, planetary health, and colonialism in La Hispaniola. Participate in a medical brigade training and provide much-needed assistance to local communities. Explore the beauty of Dudu and Playa Preciosa, and gain insights into the fascinating art of chocolate making at Chocojoba. End the trip with a rewarding snorkeling experience in Sosua and a memorable bonfire, reflecting on the valuable service you've contributed during this impactful journey. Open your heart and mind to the power of service learning in the enchanting Dominican Republic.

    • Insurance Fee:  $75 charged directly to your Student Account

    • Tuition: None, this is a travel experience with no credit associated.

All the landmarks mentioned in this itinerary will be visited. Some changes may be made in the order they will be visited depending upon the weather.

Day 1: Fly from the US to the Dominican Republic

Day 2: Community ethics presentation, do service work at La Boca de Yasica, group dinner, evening talk on the 7 Elements of Human Security.

Day 3: Return to La Boca de Yasica for service work, evening talk on Planetary Health. Free time in the evening.

Day 4: Day trip to Dudu Lagoon and Playa Preciosa

Day 5: Participate in a Medical Brigade to La Grua, evening talk on Forced Migration. Free time in the evening.

Day 6: Morning trip to Chocojoba Chocolate Factory. Afternoon service work at La Boca de Yasica. Evening talk on Colonialism in la Hispaniola, then free time.

Day 7: Day trip to Sosua to snorkel and enjoy the beach. Evening bonfire with your travel group.

Day 8: Fly from the Dominican Republic to the US.
