Required Employee Training

Rationale & Requirements

Moravian University strives to foster mutual respect and human understanding, and to cultivate a community where all members can learn, thrive, and work together effectively. We are committed to minimizing risks and threats to the safety of our community and providing a workplace and learning environment that is from discrimination, harassment, violence, and retaliation. As employees, we each share in this obligation.

For the safety and success of our campus community and to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws, employees are required to engage in regular training on several important topics. Training is designed to provide employees with awareness around these issues, knowledge of campus policies and resources, and strategies to respond and minimize risk.

All employees are required to complete the following training annually by law:

  • Title IX/Sexual Violence Prevention: Catharsis “Report=Support” module (~30-40 minutes)

  • Cybersecurity: 3 United Educators Data Security modules (~30 minutes)

Employees are required to complete the following training on a 3-year cycle:*

  • Harassment/Discrimination Prevention (all employees)

  • Child Abuse Prevention (all employees)

  • FERPA (employees who interact with routinely student information)

*New employees will complete this training upon hire (within 45 days of the establishment of a University network login/email address) and move to this cycle the next year. Total training time is approximately two hours annually for current employees. Relevant institutional policies can be found at www.moravian.edu/policy.

Course Access & Support

Upon the establishment of a University network login/email address for new employees or when training is due for current employees), employees can expect to receive an email notice to their Moravian University inbox. Please note that not all training is provided through the same learning management system and specific instructions for accessing each training module will be included.

Completing required training is not the same process as obtaining your criminal and/or child abuse clearances. The training topics and frequency are either required by law and/or our insurer.

You generally do not have to take an entire course in one sitting and progress is saved along the way. Your completion of each course will be automatically recorded. Certificates do not need to be printed and can be accessed in the training record in your dashboard at any time. Courses through United Educators may be taken in a number of preferred languages, by using the language feature in the learning management system.

When courses are assigned, technical support contact information will be provided for each platform. Generally, it is suggested that you use Google Chrome as your browser and complete the training on a computer (as opposed to a mobile device) where possible.

Employees who have completed an equivalent course in the past 6 months with another institution are able to provide their completion certification and a course summary may be exempted from requirements. Requests for exemption and questions course content may be directed to compliance@moravian.edu. Questions regarding your course assignment or completion status should be directed to hr@moravian.edu.

Other Required Training

Additional training is required for positions with certain responsibilities, including employees who drive as part of their responsibilities and employees with significant responsibility for student student or campus activities under the Clery Act. If these trainings are required for your position, the total training time may surpass two hours. Certain departments or roles may also require specific training related to safety or response protocol.

General questions regarding compliance and the availability of training for employees or students may be directed to compliance@moravian.edu.
