Homecoming 2020

Homecoming and Reunion Weekend 2020

Saturday, October 24th

Please read the important Homecoming announcement below from President Bryon Grigsby '90, P'22:

With the health and safety of our alumni and friends being a top priority, we have decided to move Homecoming and Reunion Weekend 2020 to a virtual format. Please continue to check back regularly for updates to our schedule of events and registration. The Office of Alumni & Parent Engagement will be hosting a variety of virtual events on Saturday, October 24th. Reunion years should look for emails relating to your class’ celebration in the coming weeks. Some years have decided to celebrate virtually while others will be postponing their celebrations until 2021. We look forward to celebrating in person with our entire community at Homecoming and Reunion Weekend 2021!

Detailed Schedule

Saturday, October 24th

10:00 a.m.

Virtual Alumni Association Annual Meeting with George Wacker ’03, President of the Moravian College Alumni Association and State of the College Address by President Bryon L. Grigsby ‘90 P’22

Did you know you’re a member of the Alumni Association? Join us for the annual meeting to meet the new President, George Wacker ’03, discover what they’ve been up to, and find out how you can be involved. Also, hear from President Grigsby on what is happening at the College today. There will be a live Q&A session with both George and President Grigsby immediately following their presentations.

12:00 p.m.

Virtual Return & Learn: The Development of Bacterial Resistance to Current Antibiotics
Given by Dr. Michael Bertucci

Join us virtually and learn how the development of bacterial resistance to current antibiotics has turned once treatable bacterial infections into serious health risks.  Consequently, the need for new strategies that treat or prevent infection while minimizing resistance formation is critical. A unique cell-density dependent communication mechanism in bacteria known as quorum sensing has been demonstrated to regulate a series of important colony-wide physical responses (phenotypes) that influence human health. Our research lab makes unique, biologically relevant molecules known as peptides capable of controlling these quorum sensing phenotypes in both disease-causing and probiotic bacterial species. Dr. Bertucci currently serves the College as an Assistant Professor of Chemistry.

2:00 p.m.

Virtual Student Panel
Featuring Moravian Student Alumni Representatives (STARs)

Join us virtually to hear from some of our current STARs and find out what alumni efforts they have contributed to and why they are a STAR.

4:00 p.m.

Virtual Return & Learn: Leading from Any Seat
Given by Dr. Katie P. Desiderio

Join us as we explore leading from any seat where you will: recognize your personal core values, reflect on how you enact your values while doing what you say you will do, and connect with why all of this matters in the face of change. Dr. Katie P. Desiderio serves as Moravian’s Assistant Vice President for Corporate-Educational Partnerships and Executive Director for Graduate Business Programs.

7:00 p.m.

Closing Remarks by Amanda Werner Maenza ‘13, G’17, Director of Alumni & Parent Engagement
